Tunisie-Tribune ( Sharjah Research Academy ) – Within the activities of Sharjah Research Academy (SRA) which aim at development of scientific research system in Sharjah and highlighting the current research project outputs as well as the extent of their success in the development of the local community, SRA received a large number of researchers and academic staff from University of Sharjah, and a number of government entities in a meeting held at SRA building in order to discuss the developments of joint research between SRA and University and allow for discussions on how to strengthen research cooperation in new areas.
In his welcoming speech, Prof. Amr Abdel-Hamid, SRA Director General, praised fruitful cooperation between the two institutions, which included medicine, engineering and science areas, as well as encouragement of researchers in other fields including human and literary sciences as well as Sharia (Muslim Law), which are in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which aims at activating studies and research that serve the community and work on its development through cooperation between universities and government institutions.
HE Prof. Hamid Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, confirmed that scientific research conducted for community service and development, and for resolving issues of importance and concern for it, is one of the most important points focused on by the University within its current strategic five-year plan, out of the visions and aspirations of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah « May Allah Protect Him ». He added that the importance of such meeting with SRA comes through putting forward current research projects and ascertaining the latest developments thereof, discussing issues of currently concern by the community and working to provide new opportunities for research collaboration between different institutions in order to study and work towards a solution for these issues so that we can improve environmental, social and health conditions for individuals.
During the meeting, Prof. Mufid Samarai, Senior Advisor at SRA, conducted a presentation through which he gave a briefing on SRA and its sectors, and outlined the areas of current research activities between SRA and University of Sharjah, which include roads, water treatment and reuse, energy, climate and environment. In addition, he provided an overview of the new website recently launched by SRA and how to apply through it for requesting cooperation or research funding.
