AURAK Hosts IEEE Student Day 2019

Tunisie-Tribune ( AURAK ) – The American University of Ras Al Khaimah’s (AURAK) School of Engineering hosted its 14th annual IEEE Student Day 2019 to foster student innovation in the field of Engineering.

IEEE Student Day 2019, reaching the milestone of its 14th year of activity, was sponsored by ECOLAB and in partnership with IEEE UAE Section, Dubai Electronic Security Center, and Zero Ohm. The opening ceremony commenced with a welcome speech from Professor Mousa Mohsen, the Dean of School of Engineering, emphasizing the School of Engineering as a center of excellence for Engineering Research and Development. The event organizational and technical aspects were addressed by Professor Wathiq Mansour, the Chair of IEEE Student Day Steering Committee, and Dr. Maen Takruri, the event Organizing Chair.

Event activities included several competition categories for student teams: Common Design Project, Engineering Design Project, Software Engineering Project, Industrial Design Project, Community Service Project, and Senior Design Project. An unprecedented. 310 students and 60 judges participated in the event.

AURAK Communications Engineering Student Omar Magdi found the event to be a creative outlet in which to experiment with his projects and is excited about applying new information acquired from the event to current school projects and future competitions.

The event concluded with the closing ceremony in which the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Success and Provost, Professor Stephen Wilhite, and Professor Mousa bestowed prizes upon the winners. The Cyber Security Competition winners received their prizes from Dubai Electronic Security Center representatives.

AURAK President, Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim commented that the IEEE Student Day is the optimal stage for students to liberate their potential by combining classroom theories with real world application, “The more students engage in hands-on activities that requires the application of classroom theory, the better the students understand the principals and realize their own personal potential.”

AURAK is a nonprofit, government-owned institution of higher education which provides the local, regional and international communities with a North American-style education integrated with Arabic customs and traditions. AURAK is licensed by the Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates and has been accredited in the United States of America by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) since December 2018. AURAK offers a total of 22 accredited undergraduate and graduate programs across a wide range of disciplines.
